Maintaining Access Steelwork eLearning

This course provides training on how to inspect the access steel work used across the TTT scheme, e.g. ladders, stairways, access hatches and handrails. It also provides training on how to operate the access hatches and the vortex safety grilles.

Description

Key Topic Areas

Training will cover all manufacturers recommended inspection, routine and reactive maintenance requirements, safe isolation and manual operation where available.  This will include:

  • Visual inspection of ladders, stairways, access hatches and handrails as expected for each use;
  • Thorough inspection of ladders, stairways, access hatches and handrails;
  • Operation of access hatches;
  • Operation of the vortex safety grille:
    • Lowering into position;
    • Raising back up and securing in storage position.

  • Experience in using and inspecting/monitoring the condition of similar equipment.

This course provides an understanding of the design provisions within the permanent works to facilitate the inspection of structures, e.g. CCTV access covers and personnel access to below ground structures via ladders. It also provides training on where to find the CCTV coverage reports and an understanding of the typical CCTV and lighting technologies that are available to support the inspections.
