Understanding Telemetry Panel Operation
Module 1 provides high level information on the main hardware elements of the LTT SCADA system, where they are located, how they are connected and their functionality. It also covers the system role of the Telemetry Panels. Module 2 provides information behind the design of the worksite Telemetry Panels and the difference between them and the worksite PLCs provided by the MWCs. The course also covers PLC functionality.
Description
Key Topics
Module 1: System Overview (1 hour)
- Health and Safety (relevant for the working environment covered within this course).
LTT SCADA System Overview:
- Architecture;
- Telemetry Panels, Antennae.
Module 2: Worksite Equipment and Interfaces (1 hour)
- Health and Safety (relevant for the working environment covered within this course);
Overview of the Telemetry Panel System:
- Components;
- Architecture;
- Drawings.
High level of the functionality of the PLC:
- Data transfer between the MWC Worksite PLC and the MicroLogix PLC (Telemetry Panel) and Supervisory PLC/SCADA;
- The Telemetry Panel Maintenance Timer Manuals;
- Site Variants (ABMPS, HEAPS CHAWF).
- Communication timers in the PLC
- Calculations are done in the PLC - reporting
- How comms failures work
- Maintenance button – what it is for
- Identifying which types of signals go through the Telemetry and which do not
- Identify how the EDM signals work differently from other signals
- Explain why SCADA setpoints do not pass through Telemetry
Outcomes
Module 1: System Overview (1 hour)
The course will provide Delegates with an understanding, at a high level, of the main hardware elements of the LTT SCADA system, where they are located, how they are connected and their functionality. It will specifically provide Delegates with an understanding of the role of the Telemetry Panels within the system.
Module 2: Worksite Equipment and Interfaces (1 hour)
- The course will provide Delegates with information behind the design of the worksite Telemetry Panels and the difference (at a high level) between them and the worksite PLCs provided by the MWCs. The course will also provide Delegates with an understanding of PLC functionality.
- On completion of the training, Delegates are expected to:
- Understand the function of the Telemetry Panel within the LTT SCADA system;
- Understand the Telemetry Panel design (and site-specific variations) and the function of the components within it;
- Understand the data transfer between the MWC Worksite PLCs and the MicroLogix PLCs and Supervisory PLC/SCADA;
- Understand the telecommunications interfaces to the Telemetry Panel (fixed line and mobile) including site specific variations.
Outcomes: Additional Details
Telemetry PLC:
- Identify any other triggers that are generated in the telemetry PLC, and not the MWC PLC;
- Identify what the PLC code does so that when a fault occurs the maintainer can determine if it is within the MWC software or the telemetry unit.
Maintenance Button:
- Clear understanding of the Maintenance Button functionality and event/alarm management;
EDM Signals:
- Clear understanding of how EDM data is split between CIP and DNP3 and why.
Competency/Skills Requirements
Before attending the training, Delegates are expected to complete:
- LTT System Overview;
- LTT SCADA - Basic Understanding.
