Understanding Telemetry Panel Operation
Module 1: System Overview (1 hour) The course will provide Delegates with an understanding, at a high level, of the main hardware elements of the LTT SCADA system. Module 2: Worksite Equipment and Interfaces (1 hour) The course will provide Delegates with information behind the design of the worksite Telemetry Panels and PLC's .

- Identify how the EDM signals work differently from other signals
Outcomes
Module 1: System Overview (1 hour)
The course will provide Delegates with an understanding, at a high level, of the main hardware elements of the LTT SCADA system, where they are located, how they are connected and their functionality. It will specifically provide Delegates with an understanding of the role of the Telemetry Panels within the system.
Module 2: Worksite Equipment and Interfaces (1 hour)
The course will provide Delegates with information behind the design of the worksite Telemetry Panels and the difference (at a high level) between them and the worksite PLCs provided by the MWCs. The course will also provide Delegates with an understanding of PLC functionality.
On completion of the training, Delegates are expected to:
- Understand the function of the Telemetry Panel within the LTT SCADA system;
- Understand the Telemetry Panel design (and site-specific variations) and the function of the components within it;
- Understand the data transfer between the MWC Worksite PLCs and the MicroLogix PLCs;
- Understand the telecommunications interfaces to the Telemetry Panel (fixed line and mobile) including site specific variations.
- Understand high level information on the replacement of a firewall, router, and switch.
- How to replace a firewall (re-configure)
- How to replace a router (re-configure)
- How to replace a switch (re-configure)
- Understand about locking/unlocking a port (for equipment replacement)
- Understand signal testing from LTT SCADA to Worksite PLC and from Worksite to LTT SCADA
Outcomes: Additional Details
Telemetry PLC:
- Identify functional code within the telemetry PLC, i.e., timers that are used before a comms failure triggers.
- Identify how / if comms to PLC are treated differently compared to off-site comms;
- Identify the timers in place between when the comms failure occurs versus when the site receives a signal to close all penstocks.
- Identify how signals are split for reporting, how they are averaged and sent up to SCADA.
- Identify any other triggers that are generated in the telemetry PLC, and not the MWC PLC.
- Identify what the PLC code does so that when a fault occurs the maintainer can determine if it is within the MWC software or the telemetry unit.
Maintenance Button:
- Clear understanding of when you should and when you should not press the Maintenance Button.
- Identify what signals it masks what it does not mask.
Signals through the Telemetry Panel
- Identify what setpoints don’t go through the telemetry unit and how they work.
EDM Signals
- Clear understanding of how EDM data is split between CIP and DNP3 and why.
Competency/Skills Requirements
Before attending the training, Delegates are expected to complete:
- LTT System Overview;
- LTT SCADA - Basic Understanding.
