Maintaining Air Treatment Units
This course will provide training on how to inspect the carbon cassettes and deluge pipework; sample and replace the carbon media; replace the carbon cassettes.
Description
Key Topic Areas
Training will cover all manufacturers recommended inspection, routine and reactive maintenance requirements, safe isolation and manual operation where available. This will include:
- Potential hazards and risk mitigation associated with the work (addressed throughout the training below, as it progresses);
- Routine visual inspection of the carbon cassette(s) and deluge pipework, including key ‘things to look out for’;
- Sampling of carbon media – discussion in site context, but not demonstrated until ATUs are filled and in use, i.e. during System Commissioning;
- Method of replacing carbon media – discussion in site context, but not demonstrated until first fill is undertaken prior to the System Commissioning Commencement Date (SCCD);
- Method of replacing the carbon cassettes.
Outcomes
On completion of the training, Delegates are expected to:
- Understand the risks inherent in maintaining the ATUs;
- Be able to undertake a visual inspection of the ATUs, with an understanding of the key inspection points and appropriate use of alternative methods of inspection (CCTV);
- Understand the specialist tools and methodology for taking samples of the carbon media;
- Understand the access provisions and methodology for replacement of the carbon media;
- Understand access provision and methodology for replacement of the media cassettes.
Competency/Skills Requirements
Before attending the training session, Delegates are expected to complete:
- Safety Fundamentals - Module 1 (Plans and Reporting);
- Safety Fundamentals - Module 2 (Introduction to Hazards);
- Safety Fundamentals - Module 3 (Chamber Access);
- Maintenance Fundamentals.
Before attending the training, Delegates are also expected to have:
- Experience working with similar plant;
- Been trained in confined space entry.
