Maintaining Electrical Systems - LVA, Distribution, Instrumentation and Building Services
This course will provide training on how to inspect and operate the electrical systems (such as the distribution equipment) at a MWC worksite; check the calibration of the level and temperature instrumentation; inspect the Kiosk building services, including the fire alarm system and the intruder alarm system; inspect the non-architectural lighting.
Description
Key Topic Areas
Training will cover all manufacturers’ recommended inspection, routine and reactive maintenance requirements, safe isolation and manual operation, where available.
The course will split into a classroom and a worksite session and will include:
Classroom Session
- Familiarisation with electrical design and on-site layout;
- Locating electrical design information;
- Familiarisation with statutory requirements – inspection, competency;
- Discussion of key hazards and controls.
Worksite Session
- Operation of:
- Low Voltage Assemblies;
- Distribution Equipment;
- Kiosk Building Services (including Fire Alarm, Intruder Alarm);
- Level and temperature instrumentation;
- External lighting including controls;
- Visual Inspection of:
- Low Voltage Assemblies;
- Distribution Equipment;
- Kiosk Building Services (including Fire Alarm, Intruder Alarm);
- Level and temperature instrumentation;
- External lighting, including controls for signs of obvious signs of deterioration/concern (excludes architectural lighting);
- Calibration Checks for:
- Level Instrumentation (ultrasonic and radar);
- Temperature Instruments (ATU).
Outcomes
On completion of the training, Delegates are expected to be:
- Able to operate electrical systems within the worksite;
- Able to inspect equipment and understand common signs of deterioration;
- Familiar with and understand the electrical infrastructure of a worksite;
- Able to check calibration of temperature and level instrumentation.
Competency/Skills Requirements
Before attending the training session, Delegates are expected to complete:
- Safety Fundamentals - Module 1 (Plans and Reporting);
- Safety Fundamentals - Module 2 (Introduction to Hazards);
- Safety Fundamentals - Module 3 (Chamber Access);
- HMI Operator Training Worksite Level;
- Maintenance Fundamentals.
Before attending the training, Delegates are also expected to:
- Be qualified electricians;
- Have competency in Explosive Atmospheres certification (CompEx)
- Have experience working with similar plant and equipment
Those undertaking statutory inspections are expected to already be qualified and competent to do so.
