Operating and Maintaining FALPS Low Flow Pumping Station

This course will provide an understanding of the control philosophy of the FALPS Low Flow Pumping Station and operating scenarios. It will also provide training on the maintenance requirements for the valves, pumps, and the dry well ventilation system, and how to operate the dry well ventilation system.

Description

Key Topic Areas

Training will cover all manufacturers recommended inspection, routine and reactive maintenance requirements, safe isolation and manual operation, where available.

The course will comprise both a classroom session and a site-based session and will include:

Classroom Session

  • Site layout (utilising 3D BIM);
  • P&ID;
  • Valves;
    • Regular maintenance per valve type;
    • Common reactive maintenance scenarios per valve type;
  • Pumps:
    • Regular maintenance;
    • Common reactive maintenance;
    • Removal from the chamber;
  • Pump operation:
    • Means of level control;
    • Interface with existing LFPS (common outlet);
    • Interface with LFPS Isolation Penstock;
  • Dry Well Ventilation:
    • What, where, how, why it is used;
    • Regular maintenance activities:
  • Cleaning of filters;
  • Lubrication;
  • Electrical.

 

Worksite Session

  • Location of and access to the pipe route;
  • Location of and access to the valves (outside of the dry well);
  • Location of and access to the dry well, including demonstration of the ventilation system;
  • Location of pumps, valves, etc, within the dry well, and provisions for access.

Outcomes

On completion of the training, Delegates are expected to understand:

  • The control philosophy of the pumping station, and typical operating scenarios/cycle;
  • The types of valves selected and their maintenance;
  • The types of pump selected and their maintenance;
  • How to operate the dry well ventilation system.

  • Been trained in confined space entry;
  • Suitable experience such that typical valve, pipework and pump maintenance activities are understood and need only be addressed at a high level (i.e. the ‘what’ not the ‘how’).
