Maintaining Air Management Plant - Fans, Attenuators, Exposed Ductwork, Dampers
This course will provide training on how to inspect the air management plant; check and fine tune the ventilation dampers; undertake routine fan maintenance activities; remove/replace air management plant. It will also introduce possible reactive maintenance scenarios and the recommended responses.
Description
Key Topic Areas
Training will cover all manufacturers recommended inspection, routine and reactive maintenance requirements, safe isolation and manual operation, where available. This will include:
- Potential hazards and risk mitigation associated with the work, addressed throughout the training below, as it progresses;
- Routine visual inspection of tunnel ventilation fans and associated acoustic enclosures and instrumentation;
- Routine inspection of acoustic attenuators, vent flues and Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) ductwork;
- Routine inspection of ventilation dampers;
- Damper setting, operation, calibration and removal/replacement;
- Routine fan maintenance, including removal;
- Maintenance, removal and replacement of integrated instrumentation;
- Reactive maintenance of tunnel ventilation fans, including:
- Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) system;
- Possible failure types;
- Emergency shut down and isolation points;
- Further steps – O&M manual and contacts.
Outcomes
On completion of the training, Delegates are expected to:
- Understand the risks inherent in maintaining the air management plant;
- Be able to undertake a visual inspection of air management plant with an understanding of the key points of inspection, as well as alternative means of inspection (CCTV);
- Be able to check and fine tune the operation of ventilation dampers;
- Understand and be able to undertake routine fan maintenance activities;
- Understand methods of removal/replacement for air management plant;
- Understand the possible reactive maintenance scenarios, how to make safe following a failure and steps towards resolution.
Competency/Skills Requirements
Before attending the training session, Delegates are expected to complete:
- Safety Fundamentals - Module 1 (Plans and Reporting);
- Safety Fundamentals - Module 2 (Introduction to Hazards);
- Safety Fundamentals - Module 3 (Chamber Access);
- HMI Operator Training Worksite Level;
- Maintenance Fundamentals.
Before attending the training, Delegates are also expected to have:
- Experience working with similar plant;
- Been trained in confined space entry;
- Been suitably qualified and experienced in working with electrical plant.
