Maintaining Air Treatment Units

This course will provide training on how to inspect the carbon cassettes and deluge pipework; sample and replace the carbon media; replace the carbon cassettes.

Description

Key Topic Areas

Training will cover all manufacturers recommended inspection, routine and reactive maintenance requirements, safe isolation and manual operation where available.  This will include:

  • Potential hazards and risk mitigation associated with the work (addressed throughout the training below, as it progresses);
  • Routine visual inspection of the carbon cassette(s) and deluge pipework, including key ‘things to look out for’;
  • Sampling of carbon media – discussion in site context, but not demonstrated until ATUs are filled and in use, i.e. during System Commissioning;
  • Method of replacing carbon media – discussion in site context, but not demonstrated until first fill is undertaken prior to the System Commissioning Commencement Date (SCCD);
  • Method of replacing the carbon cassettes.
  • Field demonstrations shall take place:

    • Carbon media filling (where programme allows) and carbon media sampling demonstrations shall take place at active sites - CARRR, ACTST and GREPS;
    • Carbon media sampling shall also take place at FALPS;
    • Damper maintenance at EARPS, GREPS and ABMPS.

Competency/Skills Requirements

Before attending the training session, Delegates are expected to complete:

Before attending the training, Delegates are also expected to have:

  • Experience working with similar plant;
  • Been trained in confined space entry.

Outcomes

On completion of the training, Delegates are expected to:

  • Understand the risks inherent in maintaining the ATUs;
  • Be able to undertake a visual inspection of the ATUs, with an understanding of the key inspection points and appropriate use of alternative methods of inspection (CCTV);
  • Understand the specialist tools and methodology for taking samples of the carbon media;
  • Understand the access provisions and methodology for replacement of the carbon media;
  • Understand access provision and methodology for replacement of the media cassettes.
