Maintaining Server Equipment (Part 2)

Module 1 provides information on the maintenance plans and schedules for the server equipment installed at Beckton. Module 2 provides Delegates with the practical skills needed to locate and maintain server equipment at Beckton.

Description

Module 1 – Management of Routine and Reactive Maintenance – Servers
This module will cover:

  • Refresh of SIC planned maintenance schedules (VI, CI, SPI);
  • Explanation of SIC Reactive Maintenance procedures;
  • Explanation of SIC O&M manuals for servers.

Module 2 – Maintaining Server Equipment – Practical
This module will cover:

  • Health and Safety (relevant for the working environment covered within this course);
  • Refresh of Construction Records and Site Layout;
  • Walk-through site to locate equipment;
  • Visual inspection of equipment;
  • Configuration Inspection of equipment;
  • System Performance Inspection.
  • Disaster recovery - includes how to re-build a server from a backup and how to fully rebuild a server from bare metal (port unlocking firewalls etc)

Additional Details:
Re-build a server: A maintenance person should be able to:

  • Find a backup of a VM server and be able to rebuild it, confirm integration with the rest of the SCADA and reconfigure any security/domain/firewall rules to allow the newly built VM to fully function.

Outcomes

Module 1 – Management of Routine and Reactive Maintenance – Servers
The module will provide Delegates with an understanding of the maintenance plans and schedules for the server equipment installed at Beckton.

On completion of the training, Delegates will be expected to understand:

  • The activities within the maintenance schedules;
  • Reactive maintenance procedures and key contacts.

 

Module 2 – Maintaining Server Equipment – Practical
The module will provide Delegates with the practical skills needed to locate and maintain server equipment at Beckton.

On completion of the training, Delegates will be expected to be able to:

  • Locate the Server Equipment at Beckton;
  • Inspect, clean, and replace components;
  • Re-build a server.

Competency/Skills Requirements

Before attending the training, Delegates are expected to complete:

  • LTT System Overview;
  • LTT SCADA - Basic Understanding;
  • Maintaining Server Equipment (Part 1).

Before attending the training, Delegates are also expected to have a:

  • Thames Water Passport.

Similar courses

Module 1 provides high level information on the main hardware elements of the LTT SCADA system, where they are located, how they are connected and their functionality. It also covers the system role of the Telemetry Panels. Module 2 provides information behind the design of the worksite Telemetry Panels and the difference between them and the worksite PLCs provided by the MWCs. The course also covers PLC functionality.
